    You might be talking about my daughter in her contemporary fiction 2nd yr uni class. 1984, Solomon Rushdie and Metamorphosis in 8 weeks…ug. I can think of better things to be reading than slash your wrists literature!

    • The books they make the kids read are usually contemporary, but the subject material tends to be a bit depressing. Often YA fiction award nominees seem to slant towards “issue” books rather than entertaining, quality writing.
